My Good Shepherd
Psalm 23 exalts the Good Shepherd. What a wonderful privilege it is to be one of His Sheep! He understands and meets all of my needs so that I shall never want. As I learn to view life from His perspective, and begin to see the purpose He has for everything He allows in my life, I am so grateful to know that He only makes me to lie down in green pastures.
The still, living water that He gives me to drink is so satisfying that I will never thirst again for the empty pleasures of this world. His cleansing blood pufifies me from all sin and makes me acceptable to the Father. Thus my soul is restored from its hopeless, lost state. Completely devoid of any trace of righteousness of goodness of my own I am nonetheless led in paths of righteourness because it is His power that leads me in His righteous paths.
He must be exalted through my life and everything I do must be for His name's sake. I am confident that no circumstances of life, no matter how awful and life-threatening they may be, can separate me from my Shepherd.
He is always with me for He has promised never to leave me or forsake me. My tendency to stray from Him is chronic. I do not relish the pain (HIs rod) that comes from the damaging circumstances I get myself into when I wander from Him, but what a comforting experience it is to feel His staff drawing me back to Himself.
He provides for me and protects me when my enemies come against me. All He does for me creates in me a deep reverence for my Wonderful Shepherd. It was once in this atmosphere of awe of Him that my pastor placed his hand on my head. I felt the anointing Holy Spirit "Oil" flow down over my head. My cup ran over. That delightful comfort of the Holy Spirit promotes the steadfast hope and confident assurance that goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and that I will dwell in the house of my Lord forever.
All we need or could ever want in life and so much more is only found in our glorious Good Shepherd.
Let us seek Him ALL our hearts and surrender ourselves utterly and unreservedly to Him!
